SR22 Insurance
What is an SR-22?
A SR-22 is a form required as proof of financial responsibility by
the court or under state law for persons who have been convicted of
various traffic violations, including DUI. A SR22 Filing is a
document issued by an insurance co. removing the suspension placed
by the DMV office on your driving privileges. The SR-22 document
provides a guarantee to the state that an insurance co. has issued a
liability auto policy for the person in question and that the DMV
will be contacted if the insurance should lapse due to any reason.
Insurance must be purchased before the SR22 goes into effect.
How long will a SR22 filing last?
Generally from 1 to 3 years, but may be extended.
How do I reinstate my license?
Obtain a copy of your driving record. Then contact your local DMV
to find out what additional fines and fees you may need to pay. Then
contact an insurance company online or by phone to get details on
buying insurance and filing your SR-22. Not all insurance companies
offer SR-22 insurance. You may need to do some research to find an
insurer that specializes in highrisk drivers. The requirements for
reinstating a license may vary from state to state.
Some insurers that offer High-Risk Auto Insurance can be found at InsureMe
and Esurance .
